Amitriptyline 75 Mg

When prescribing the antidepressant medication amitriptyline hydrochloride (Elavil®), your healthcare provider will take various factors into account, including if any other medical conditions are present and your age. Teenagers and the elderly, for example, generally start with a lower amount of amitriptyline.

In most cases, the starting dose for adults is amitriptyline 75 mg total per day, divided into two or three smaller doses. For those who would rather take this medication once daily, the starting amount is 50 mg to 100 mg of amitriptyline, taken once a day at bedtime.

Whether you are taking this product once daily or in divided doses throughout the day, it is important to take amitriptyline at the same time(s) to help keep an even level in your system. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness with this product, ask your healthcare provider about taking it once daily at bedtime instead.
