Drug Interactions With Budeprion XL

Levodopa
Taking Budeprion XL and levodopa together may increase your risk of side effects. To prevent this, your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower dose of Budeprion XL if you are taking levodopa.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
You should not take Budeprion XL if you have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days, due to an increased risk of dangerous side effects.

Nelfinavir
Nelfinavir may interact with Budeprion XL, although there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your dose of these medications.

Nicotine Patches
Taking Budeprion XL while using nicotine patches can cause high blood pressure. Your healthcare provider should monitor your blood pressure if you are taking these medications together.

Orphenadrine
Orphenadrine may interact with Budeprion XL, although there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. Depending on your situation, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your dose of these medications.

Ritonavir (Norvir) or Lopinavir and Ritonavir (Kaletra)
Ritonavir (whether taken alone or with lopinavir) may increase the metabolism of Budeprion XL, leading to decreased levels of Budeprion XL in the blood and possibly to decreased effectiveness. Check with your healthcare provider before taking such medications together. You may need a higher Budeprion XL dosage, although the maximum recommended dosage should not be exceeded, even if you are taking ritonavir.

Steroids
Taking Budeprion XL with intravenous or oral steroids can increase your risk of seizures. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
At least theoretically, Budeprion XL could cause tamoxifen to be less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Theophylline
Combining Budeprion XL with theophylline can increase your risk of seizures. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
