Celexa Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when
Celexa is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Alcohol
It is not recommended to drink alcohol while taking Celexa. Combining alcohol and Celexa may cause unwanted side effects
(see Celexa and Alcohol).
Aspirin
Taking Celexa and aspirin together can increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking aspirin and Celexa together.
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Taking
cimetidine and Celexa together can increase the level of Celexa in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to lower your Celexa dose or suggest an alternative to cimetidine.
Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Taking ketoconazole with Celexa may decrease the level of ketoconazole in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your ketoconazole dose.
Linezolid (Zyvox)
Taking Celexa with a
linezolid can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. These symptoms include confusion, hallucinations, fast heartbeat, feeling faint, fever, sweating, muscle spasm, difficulty walking, and
diarrhea. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these symptoms, as serotonin syndrome can be very dangerous.
