Of the three strengths of
Cymbalta® (
duloxetine hydrochloride) currently available, Cymbalta 60 mg capsules are the strongest strength available. This medication is approved to treat certain conditions, such as
depression,
generalized anxiety disorder, and
fibromyalgia. The dose your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on the medical condition being treated and other medications you are currently taking (including vitamins).
Depression
The recommended dose for depression is Cymbalta 20 mg twice daily, 30 mg twice daily, or 60 mg once daily. Doses above Cymbalta 60 mg capsules per day are not recommended.
Neuropathic Pain
The recommended dosage for peripheral
diabetic neuropathy pain is Cymbalta 60 mg capsules once daily. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower dose, especially if you have kidney problems.
Anxiety
The recommended dose for generalized
anxiety disorder is Cymbalta 60 mg capsules once daily. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower dose (30 mg capsules once daily) for a week before increasing your dosage to 60 mg once daily, although this is not necessary for everyone.
Fibromyalgia
The recommended starting dose for
fibromyalgia treatment is Cymbalta 30 mg capsules once a day for one week, after which your healthcare provider may increase the dose to 60 mg once daily.
