Cymbalta Warnings and Precautions

There are several Cymbalta warnings and precautions to be aware of, including those concerning an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, the possibility of developing liver problems, and possible pregnancy risks. Prior to taking Cymbalta, you should tell your healthcare provider if you have bipolar disorder, high blood pressure, or liver disease. You should not take Cymbalta if you have taken an MAOI within the past two weeks or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients used to make Cymbalta.

Cymbalta: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk to your healthcare provider prior to taking

Cymbalta^® (duloxetine hydrochloride) if you have:

Bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression)
A history of suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts
Had a recent heart attack or if you have unstable heart disease
Diabetic gastroparesis (a slowing of the digestive tract due to diabetes)
High blood pressure (hypertension) or low blood pressure (hypotension)
Seizures or epilepsy
Glaucoma (a condition of the eyes)
Liver disease, including liver failure or cirrhosis
Kidney problems, including kidney failure (renal failure)
A bladder problem
Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding
Drink alcohol regularly.

Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
