What Is Deplin?

Deplin® is used for the treatment of
depression and schizophrenia. But what is Deplin and how does it work?

Deplin is a prescription vitamin that contains L-methylfolate, the active form of folic acid. This vitamin can help increase folate levels in people with depression and reduce homocysteine levels in people with schizophrenia. It should not be used to replace antidepressant and antipsychotic medications; it is used to help improve the effectiveness of these drugs.

Deplin is classified as a "medical food." Medical foods are products that are used for the dietary management of medical conditions that have unique dietary needs. They should only be used under medical supervision.

This product comes in the form of a tablet and is typically taken once a day. Possible side effects may include gas, nausea, and a decrease in appetite.
