Drug Interactions With Desipramine

A few of the medicines that can potentially interact with desipramine include alcohol, anticholinergic medications, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines. Drug interactions with desipramine can increase the risk of a dangerous arrhythmia called QT prolongation or lead to an increased risk of suicidal thoughts in some people, among other things. You should be sure to talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any desipramine drug interactions that may apply to you.

 

Drug Interactions With Desipramine: An Introduction

 Desipramine hydrochloride (Norpramin®) can potentially interact with many other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to desipramine drug interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
     
  • Anticholinergic medications, including:

 

 

  • Arrhythmia medications, including:

 

    • Amiodarone (Cordarone®)
    • Disopyramide (Norpace®)
    • Dofetilide (Tikosyn®)
    • Flecainide (Tambocor®)
    • Ibutilide (Corvert®)
    • Propafenone (Rythmol®)
    • Quinidine
    • Sotalol (Betapace®)

 

  • Barbiturates, including:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Benzodiazepines, including:

 

 

 

 

  • Phenothiazine medications, including:
