Effexor Drug Interactions

When medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or cimetidine are taken together with Effexor, drug interactions may potentially occur. Among other things, drug interactions with Effexor can cause unwanted side effects, alter the levels of some drugs in your blood, and perhaps make some drugs less effective. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider about any Effexor interactions that may apply to you.

 

Effexor Drug Interactions: An Introduction

 Effexor® (venlafaxine hydrochloride) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of the medicines that can lead to Effexor interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
  • "Blood thinners," including anticoagulants and antiplatelet medications such as:

 

    • Aspirin (Bayer® and others)
    • Clopidogrel (Plavix®)
    • Heparin or heparin-like products, such as:

 

      • Dalteparin (Fragmin®)
      • Enoxaparin (Lovenox®)
      • Tinzaparin (Innohep®)
 
    • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
 
 
    • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®)
