Emsam and Breastfeeding

Because no research has been done on Emsam and breastfeeding, it is not known if the medication will pass through breast milk. However, Emsam has been shown to pass through breast milk in rats -- and it is thought that it will also pass through breast milk in humans. Due to the potentially harmful effects Emsam may have on the breastfeeding baby, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Emsam while breastfeeding.

It is not known if Emsam® (selegiline transdermal patch) passes through breast milk. Due to the possible harmful effects Emsam might have on the breastfeeding infant, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Emsam while breastfeeding.
 

What Does the Research Say About Emsam and Breastfeeding?

No research has been done to see if Emsam passes through breast milk in humans. It does pass through breast milk in rats. Due to the chemical makeup of Emsam, it is expected that it will pass through breast milk in humans. It is not known what the effects to a breastfeeding baby might be.
