Fetzima Side Effects

Nausea, constipation, and a fast heart rate are some of the mostly commonly reported side effects of Fetzima. Reactions that are less common include hot flashes and changes in blood pressure. Although adverse reactions are generally minor, you should seek medical attention immediately if you develop suicidal thoughts or behavior, confusion, or seizures while taking this drug.

An Introduction to Fetzima Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Fetzima™ (levomilnacipran) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Fetzima

Fetzima has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects seen in a group of people given the drug were documented and compared with those that occurred in a similar group given a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.

In clinical studies, the most common Fetzima side effects included:

  • Nausea -- in up to 17 percent of people
  • Constipation -- up to 9 percent
  • Excessive sweating -- up to 9 percent
  • A fast heart rate (tachycardia) -- up to 6 percent
  • Increases in heart rate -- up to 6 percent
  • Problems achieving or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction) -- up to 6 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 5 percent
  • Feelings of a fluttering, pounding, or racing heart -- up to 5 percent
  • Ejaculation problems, such as premature ejaculation or an inability to ejaculate -- up to 5 percent.

Other reactions, occurring in 2 percent to 4 percent of people, included:
