Forfivo XL Drug Interactions
People taking Forfivo XL should be aware that combining it with alcohol, other antidepressants, or various other drugs may cause negative interactions. In some cases, reactions such as these can increase the risk for side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the medicines. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and adjust your dosages if necessary.
An Overview of Interactions With Forfivo XL
Forfivo™ XL (bupropion XL) may react with a number of other medications. Some of the drugs that can interact with Forfivo XL include but are not limited to:- Alcohol
- Other antidepressants
- Amantadine (Symmetrel®)
- Antipsychotic medications used to treat hallucinations or schizophrenia
- Beta blockers, such as:
- Atenolol (Tenormin®)
- Bisoprolol (Zebeta®)
- Carvedilol (Coreg®, Coreg CR®)
- Labetalol (Trandate®)
- Metoprolol (Lopressor®, Toprol-XL®)
- Nadolol (Corgard®)
- Propranolol (Inderal®)
- Sotalol (Betapace®)
- Timolol (Blocadren)
- Certain arrhythmia medications, including propafenone (Rythmol®) and flecainide (Tambocor®)
- Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan®)
- Doxorubicin (Adriamycin®, Doxil®)
- Efavirenz (Sustiva®)
- Levodopa medications, such as Sinemet®, Sinemet® CR, Parcopa®, or Stalevo®
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
- Isocarboxazid (Marplan®)
- Phenelzine (Nardil®)
- Rasagiline (Azilect®)
- Selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®, Zelapar®)
- Tranylcypromine (Parnate®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Nicotine patches, such as Nicoderm CQ®
- Orphenadrine (Norflex®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Steroids, such as prednisone or methylprednisolone (Medrol®)
- Tamoxifen (Nolvadex®)
- Theophylline (Uniphyl®, Theochron®, TheoCap®, Theo-24®, Elixophyllin®)
- Thiotepa.
