There are several other antidepressants available, including:

Bupropion (Wellbutrin^®, Wellbutrin SR^®, Wellbutrin XL^®), a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor
Mirtazapine (Remeron^®)
Nefazodone (Serzone^®)
Trazodone (Desyrel^®).

Sometimes, stimulant medications such as methylphenidate (Ritalin^®) are used to treat depression when other medications have not helped; although stimulants are not approved for this use.

Other Lexapro Alternatives

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) may be considered when medication, therapy, and the combination of these treatments prove ineffective (or work too slowly to relieve severe symptoms).

Some people may also consider complementary or alternative treatments for depression. Complementary or alternative treatments may include:

Vitamin B₆
SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine)
