There are several other antidepressants available, including:
 
Sometimes, stimulant medications such as methylphenidate (Ritalin®) are used to treat depression when other medications have not helped; although stimulants are not approved for this use.
 

Other Lexapro Alternatives

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) may be considered when medication, therapy, and the combination of these treatments prove ineffective (or work too slowly to relieve severe symptoms).

Lexapro Alternatives: A Summary

There are several alternatives to Lexapro, including other medications and therapy. Talk with your healthcare provider if Lexapro is not working for you or your child, or if you are experiencing bothersome Lexapro side effects. You may need to try one of the other depression treatments.
