Lexapro® (escitalopram oxalate) is a medication licensed to treat depression and generalized anxiety disorder. The prescription antidepressant is classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), and it works by affecting a certain brain chemical (serotonin). Lexapro comes in a tablet and liquid form and is usually taken once a day. In order for Lexapro to work properly, you must take it as prescribed. The dosage of Lexapro your healthcare provider prescribes will vary, depending on several factors, such as your age, the medical condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you may be taking.
