Depression Home > Asendin Dosage
For people who are first beginning depression treatment with Asendin, dosing usually starts at 50 mg two or three times a day. Based on your response to the medication and whether side effects occur, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your Asendin dosage accordingly. After you reach a stable dose of Asendin, your healthcare provider may recommend taking your dose all at once at bedtime.
The dose of Asendin® (amoxapine) that your healthcare provider prescribes will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- The medical condition being treated
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may currently be taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
The recommended starting Asendin dose for depression treatment is 50 mg two or three times daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose if necessary to control depression symptoms or decrease your dose if you are experiencing side effects. After you have reached a stable dose, your healthcare provider may recommend taking your dose all at once at bedtime (if you are taking 300 mg or less). If you are taking more than 300 mg, you will still need to split up your doses throughout the day.
Alternatively, your healthcare provider may decide to start you at Asendin 300 mg once a day (at bedtime), although you would be more likely to experience drowsiness when starting at this dose.
In general, elderly people are started at a lower Asendin dose (25 mg two or three times daily), as they may be more sensitive to Asendin side effects.
