Depression Home > Cymbalta Capsules

Cymbalta® (duloxetine hydrochloride) is approved to treat conditions such as depression, peripheral diabetic neuropathy pain, generalized anxiety disorder, and fibromyalgia.
The drug comes in capsule form. It is taken by mouth, usually once or twice a day. Cymbalta capsules are available in three strengths:
  • Cymbalta 20 mg
  • Cymbalta 30 mg
  • Cymbalta 60 mg.
Cymbalta is part of a class of drugs known as serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, or SNRIs for short. When the levels of serotonin or norepinephrine become unbalanced, it can cause a variety of conditions, including depression or anxiety. Cymbalta helps to block the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine so that more remains in the space between the brain's nerve cells.
Although most people tolerate this medication well, it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with Cymbalta capsules, talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have or any other medications you are taking. Common side effects include headaches, nausea, and drowsiness.
