Venlafaxine XR is a medication that is prescribed for the treatment of depression, social phobia, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. The extended release drug is a type of serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that works on two chemicals within the brain known as serotonin and norepinephrine. Venlafaxine XR comes in a capsule or tablet form that is usually taken once daily. A few of the conditions that you should let your healthcare provider know about before you take this medicine include glaucoma, liver disease (including liver failure or cirrhosis), and high blood pressure.
What Is Venlafaxine XR?Venlafaxine XR (Effexor XR®) is a prescription medication that is used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Venlafaxine XR comes in an extended release capsule, meaning the medicine is released slowly into your body. There is also a tablet form of venlafaxine XR, but it is not equivalent to Effexor XR.
Venlafaxine XR UsesVenlafaxine XR capsules are licensed to treat a variety of conditions. These venlafaxine XR uses include the treatment of:
- Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
- Panic disorder
- Social phobia (also known as social anxiety disorder).
