Drug Interactions With Nortriptyline

Barbiturates
Taking nortriptyline with barbiturates can increase the risk of side effects of both nortriptyline and barbiturates, such as drowsiness or dizziness. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications.
 
Buspirone (BuSpar)
Because combining nortriptyline with buspirone may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Chlorpropamide (Diabinese)
There has been one report of a person experiencing low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) after taking chlorpropamide and nortriptyline together. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor your blood sugar more closely, especially when starting or stopping nortriptyline.
 
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Taking nortriptyline with cimetidine can increase the level of nortriptyline in your blood, increasing your chance of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications.
 
Fentanyl
Combining nortriptyline with fentanyl may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Intravenous Methylene Blue
Taking nortriptyline with intravenous methylene blue can increase your chance of developing dangerous side effects, including serotonin syndrome. Do not take these medications together.
 
Lithium
