Drug Interactions With Olanzapine and Fluoxetine

Several medicines can lead to drug interactions with olanzapine and fluoxetine, including aspirin, certain antidepressants, and some antipsychotics. Some of these interactions can alter the levels of the drugs in your blood, decrease the drugs' effectiveness, or increase your risk of side effects. If drug interactions with olanzapine and fluoxetine are a concern, your healthcare provider may adjust your dosages accordingly.

 

An Introduction to Drug Interactions With Olanzapine and Fluoxetine

 Olanzapine and fluoxetine (Symbyax®) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to drug interactions with olanzapine and fluoxetine include:
 
  • Alcohol
 
 
  • Aspirin
 
 
o Pimozide (Orap®)
  • Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®)
 
 
  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®)
 
 
  • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
 
  • Linezolid (Zyvox®)
 
 
  • Mexiletine (Mexitil®)
 
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
o Ibuprofen (Motrin®, Advil®)
o Diclofenac (Cataflam®, Voltaren®)
o Ketoprofen (Orudis®)
  • Norfloxacin (Noroxin®)
 
 
  • Ofloxacin (Floxin®)
 
 
o Fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®)
o Fluvoxamine (Luvox®)
 
 
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
