Oleptro Side Effects

Serious Side Effects

Some side effects with Oleptro are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. Although generally rare, some of these side effects are actually fairly common. These include but are not limited to:
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior (see Antidepressants and Suicide)
  • A painful erection of the penis that does not go away (priapism)
  • Fast heart rate or an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, and/or fainting, which may be signs of low blood pressure
  • Chest palpitations
  • Signs of serotonin syndrome (a rare but dangerous problem associated with medications like Oleptro) such as:
    • Confusion or other mental changes
    • A rapid heart rate
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Hallucinations
    • Blood pressure changes
    • Overactive reflexes
    • Fever
    • Shivering
    • Shakiness
    • Agitation
    • Sweating
    • Seizures
    • Coma
  • Signs of low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia), such as:
    • Headaches
    • Difficulty concentrating, memory problems, or confusion
    • Unsteadiness or falling
    • Hallucinations
    • Fainting
    • Seizures
    • Coma
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Itching
    • Hives
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.
