Parnate Drug Interactions

A number of medications should not be taken together with Parnate. Drug interactions may occur if the antidepressant is taken with blood pressure medications, stimulants, narcotics, and other monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Parnate interactions can increase your risk of developing serious side effects, such as dangerously high blood pressure, low blood pressure, or seizures.

 

Parnate Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Parnate® (tranylcypromine sulfate) can potentially interact with many medicines. Because there are so many Parnate drug interactions that can be very dangerous, it is important to check with your healthcare provider before taking any medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter. Make sure to tell all your healthcare providers (including dentists and surgeons) that you are taking Parnate. Some of the medicines that may lead to Parnate interactions include:
 
o Dextromethorphan (Robitussin DM® and many others)
o Naphazoline (various nasal and eye drops, such as Visine-A®)
o Oxymetazoline (various nasal and eye drops, such as Afrin®)
o Phenylephrine (Sudafed PE® and many others)
o Propylhexedrine (Benzedrex®)
o Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed® and many others)
  • Narcotics, such as codeine, hydrocodone, morphine, and many others
  • Pressors, including:
o Dopamine
o Ephedrine
o Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®)
o Isometheptene (Duradrin®, Midrin®, Migquin®, Migratine®, Migrazone®, Migrin-A®)
o Levonordefrin (Carbocaine with Neo-Cobefrin®)
o Midodrine (Orvaten®, ProAmatine®)
o Norepinephrine (Levophed®)
  • Stimulants, such as:
o Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine®, Dexedrine Spansules®)
o Phentermine (Adipex-P®, Ionamin®)
o Amitriptyline and chlordiazepoxide (Limbitrol®)
o Amitriptyline and perphenazine (Etrafon®)
