Drug Interactions With Paroxetine

Phenothiazines
Paroxetine can increase the level of phenothiazine medications in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Also, taking these medications can increase your chance of experiencing drowsiness. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

One particular phenothiazine, thioridazine (Mellaril) should generally not be taken in combination with paroxetine, due to the risk of a dangerous irregular heart rhythm called QT prolongation.

Pimozide (Orap)
Pimozide and paroxetine should not be taken together, as the combination may cause a dangerous irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) called QT prolongation. Do not take these two medications together.

Procyclidine (Kemadrin)
Paroxetine can increase the level of procyclidine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your procyclidine dosage.

Risperidone (Risperdal)
Paroxetine can increase the level of risperidone in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your risperidone dose.

SSRI or SNRI Antidepressants
Taking paroxetine with other SSRIs or with SNRI antidepressants can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these depression medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome (see the "Linezolid" section above), as it can be very dangerous.

St. John's Wort
Taking paroxetine with St. John's wort can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome (see the "Linezolid" section above), as it can be very dangerous.
