Paxil CR Alternatives

There are a number of alternatives to Paxil CR, including other antidepressants, natural therapies, psychotherapy, and electroconvulsive therapy. Some examples of other medicines that can be alternatives to Paxil CR include other SSRIs, SNRIs, and tricyclic antidepressants. If Paxil CR is not effective at treating your symptoms or if side effects occur, let your healthcare provider know so that he or she can consider Paxil CR alternatives.

 

Paxil CR Alternatives: An Overview

 Paxil CR® (paroxetine controlled release) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of the following conditions:
 
Paxil CR is part of a group of antidepressant medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). For the most part, Paxil CR is well-tolerated and is effective at treating symptoms of depression. However, as with all medicines, it is possible that side effects will occur during treatment with Paxil CR or that the medicine may not adequately control a person's symptoms. Fortunately, there are several alternatives to Paxil CR for depression treatment, including:
 
  • Therapy
  • Other depression medications, also known as antidepressants
  • Electroconvulsive therapy
  • Alternative (natural) therapies.
