Paxil CR Drug Interactions

Paxil CR Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Paxil CR is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
It is not recommended that you drink alcohol while taking Paxil CR. Combining alcohol and Paxil CR may cause unwanted side effects (see Alcohol and Paxil CR).

Aspirin
Taking Paxil CR and aspirin together can increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking aspirin and Paxil CR together.

Atomoxetine (Strattera)
Paxil CR can raise the level of Strattera in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to lower your Strattera dosage.

Certain Arrhythmia Medications
Taking Paxil CR with certain arrhythmia medications can raise the level of Paxil CR or the arrhythmia medication in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these medications.

Certain Seizure Medications
Certain seizure medications (phenobarbital and phenytoin) may decrease the level of Paxil CR in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Also, taking these two medications together can lead to increased drowsiness. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of them.

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Taking cimetidine with Paxil CR can raise the level of Paxil CR in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to lower your Paxil CR dose or suggest an alternative to cimetidine.
