Paxil CR Drug Interactions

Pimozide (Orap)
Pimozide and Paxil CR should not be taken together, as the combination may cause a dangerous irregular heart rhythm called QT prolongation. Do not take these two medications together.
 
Procyclidine (Kemadrin)
Paxil CR can raise the level of procyclidine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to decrease your procyclidine dosage.
 
Risperidone (Risperdal)
Paxil CR can raise the level of risperidone in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to decrease your risperidone dose.
 
SSRI or SNRI Antidepressants
Taking Paxil CR with other SSRI or SNRI antidepressants can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these depression medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome (see above), as it can be very dangerous.
 
St. John's Wort
Taking Paxil CR with St. John's wort can cause a group of symptoms called serotonin syndrome. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of serotonin syndrome (see above), as it can be very dangerous.
 
Tamoxifen
Tamoxifen must be activated in the liver before it can work in the body. Paxil CR can inhibit this activation, perhaps making tamoxifen less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking tamoxifen with Paxil CR.
 
Theophylline
Paxil CR may raise the level of theophylline in your blood, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to check the level of theophylline in your blood and lower your theophylline dose if necessary.
