Pexeva is removed from the body more slowly in older adults than in younger age groups. Therefore, it is generally recommended that older adults receive a lower starting dose of this medication (usually 10 mg a day) and no more than 40 mg a day. In addition, older adults may have an increased risk for certain Pexeva side effects, including low blood sodium (hyponatremia) (see Pexeva Warnings and Precautions).
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the conditions discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. Some potential off-label uses for Pexeva include the following:
- Depression associated with bipolar disorder
- Compulsive gambling
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Eating disorders (including anorexia and bulimia)
- Hot flashes
- Posttraumatic stress disorder
- Personality disorders
- Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
- Social phobia
- Tourette syndrome.
