Negative Effects of Pristiq

Although Pristiq® (desvenlafaxine succinate) is generally safe for most people, it is not without certain risks. For example, some people taking Pristiq develop negative side effects, such as:
 

 

In rare cases, side effects of the drug can be dangerous. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you develop panic attacks, hostility, seizures, or hallucinations while taking Pristiq.
 
If you are taking a diuretic, Pristiq could cause low salt levels in the blood (hyponatremia). This generally returns to "normal" when the medication is discontinued. In addition, Pristiq can increase heart rate and blood pressure, and it may not be safe for some people with heart disease. In fact, everyone taking Pristiq should have their blood pressure checked periodically.
