Available only by prescription, Pristiq
® (
desvenlafaxine succinate) is a drug approved for treating
depression in adults. This medication is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medicines you are taking before prescribing it.
Although many people do not have any problems while taking this drug, Pristiq can cause side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, and
headaches. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
Pristiq comes in the form of extended-release tablets and is only taken once daily. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, as this will cause the medication to be released too quickly.
