Drug Interactions With Protriptyline

A number of medicines may cause drug interactions with protriptyline, including cimetidine, arrhythmia medications, pressors, and other tricyclic antidepressants. Because these interactions can increase your risk of side effects, let your healthcare provider know if you are taking any other medications before starting protriptyline. If drug interactions with protriptyline are a concern, your dosages may be adjusted or you may be monitored more closely.

Drug Interactions With Protriptyline: An Introduction

 Protriptyline hydrochloride (Vivactil®) can potentially interact with many medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with protriptyline include:
 
  • Alcohol
  • Anticholinergic medications, including:

 

 

  • Arrhythmia medications, including:

 

    • Amiodarone (Cordarone®)
    • Disopyramide (Norpace®)
    • Dofetilide (Tikosyn®)
    • Flecainide (Tambocor®)
    • Ibutilide (Corvert®)
    • Propafenone (Rythmol®)
    • Quinidine
    • Sotalol (Betapace®)

 

  • Cimetidine (Tagamet®)
  • Cisapride (Propulsid®)
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:

 

 

  • Phenothiazine medications, including:

 

 

  • Pressors, including:

 

    • Dopamine (Intropin®)
    • Dobutamine (Dobutrex®)
    • Epinephrine (Adrenalin®, EpiPen®)
    • Norepinephrine (Levophed®)

 

 
  
  • Thyroid medications, including:
