Prozac Risks

Prozac® (fluoxetine hydrochloride) is an antidepressant often prescribed for the treatment of depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and bulimia. When used in combination with Zyprexa® (olanzapine), it is also approved for treating bipolar depression and treatment-resistant depression.

There are certain risks with Prozac that you should be aware of before starting this medication. It is important to know that all antidepressants can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior in both adults and children. Since Prozac could worsen certain medical conditions, you should also tell your healthcare provider about all other conditions you have before starting treatment.

There are numerous side effects that have been reported with Prozac, including indigestion, dry mouth, nausea, and weakness. While most side effects of the drug are minor and generally do not require medical attention, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience anxiety, restlessness, or difficulty sleeping.
