Prozac

Prozac is a prescription medication that is licensed to treat a number of conditions, including depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and bulimia. It is a form of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI for short. SSRIs work by balancing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Although most people tolerate Prozac well, side effects may occur. Possible side effects of this drug include headache, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Sarafem® (a brand-name medication that contains the exact same medication as Prozac) is also licensed to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), but Prozac and generic forms of Prozac are not approved for this use.
