Remeron for Fibromyalgia
Research Findings on Remeron for FibromyalgiaOne small study that involved the use of Remeron for fibromyalgia has been published. The results suggested that Remeron may help to decrease symptoms of fibromyalgia. However, it is important to understand that this study was quite small and was an "open-label study." This means that the patients knew they were taking Remeron, and the improvement in symptoms may be due to the placebo effect. In other words, it is impossible to know if people taking a "sugar pill" (with no active ingredient) would also have a similar improvement in symptoms.
Other antidepressants (such as tricyclic antidepressants or SSRIs) have been more thoroughly studied as a treatment for fibromyalgia. Because Remeron acts similarly to these other antidepressants, it is reasonable to expect that it may also be effective for fibromyalgia. However, larger studies are necessary before it can be concluded that Remeron is safe and effective for fibromyalgia.
