Remeron for Fibromyalgia: An Overview
Remeron® (
mirtazapine) is a prescription medication approved to treat
depression. One study has suggested that Remeron may also be useful in treating
fibromyalgia, although it is not currently approved for this use.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue (tiredness).
People with the condition have "tender points" on the body. These are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on them. Fibromyalgia affects as many as 1 in 50 Americans. Women tend to have it more than men. However, men and children can also have this disorder. Most people are diagnosed with fibromyalgia during middle age.
