Remeron may be useful in treating fibromyalgia, although it has not been approved for this use. One small study that involved the use of Remeron for fibromyalgia treatment suggested that the medication may help to alleviate symptoms. However, because this study excluded a group taking a sugar pill, larger studies are necessary before it can be determined that using Remeron for fibromyalgia is safe and effective.
Remeron for Fibromyalgia: An Overview
Remeron® (
mirtazapine) is a prescription medication approved to treat
depression. One study has suggested that Remeron may also be useful in treating
fibromyalgia, although it is not currently approved for this use.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue (tiredness).
People with the condition have "tender points" on the body. These are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on them.
