Remeron for Fibromyalgia
Remeron may be useful in treating fibromyalgia, although it has not been approved for this use. One small study that involved the use of Remeron for fibromyalgia treatment suggested that the medication may help to alleviate symptoms. However, because this study excluded a group taking a sugar pill, larger studies are necessary before it can be determined that using Remeron for fibromyalgia is safe and effective.

Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue (tiredness). People with the condition have "tender points" on the body. These are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on them. Fibromyalgia affects as many as 1 in 50 Americans. Women tend to have it more than men. However, men and children can also have this disorder. Most people are diagnosed with fibromyalgia during middle age.Treatment options for fibromyalgia include:
- Medications (see Fibromyalgia Medications)
- Physical and occupational therapy
- Learning pain-management and coping techniques
- Properly balancing rest and activity.
Complementary and alternative therapies may also be beneficial for some people. These alternative approaches to fibromyalgia treatment can include:
- Massage
- Movement therapies (such as Pilates and the Feldenkrais method)
- Chiropractic treatments
- Acupuncture
- Various herbs and dietary supplements for different fibromyalgia symptoms.
