Tofranil Drug Interactions

Linezolid (Zyvox)
Taking Tofranil with linezolid can increase your chance of developing dangerous side effects, including serotonin syndrome. Do not take these medications together.
  
Methylphenidate
Methylphenidate may increase the level of Tofranil in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Tofranil dosage, especially if you are starting or stopping methylphenidate.
 
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
Taking Tofranil with MAOIs can increase your chance of developing dangerous side effects. Do not take Tofranil if you have taken an MAOI within the past two weeks.
 
Phenothiazines
If Tofranil and phenothiazine medications are combined, this can increase the level of Tofranil in your blood, potentially increasing your risk of side effects. Also, combining Tofranil with certain phenothiazines can increase your risk of a dangerous irregular heart rhythm called QT prolongation. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Phenytoin
Phenytoin may decrease the level of Tofranil in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Tofranil dose, especially if you are starting or stopping phenytoin, to prevent this from occurring.
 
Pressors
Taking Tofranil with pressor medications can increase your risk of side effects. Depending on your situation, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications.
 
SSRI or SNRI Medications
Combining Tofranil with SSRIs or SNRIs could increase your chance of side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking such medications together.
 
St. John's Wort
Combining Tofranil with St. John's wort may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
