Who Should Not Take Tofranil?

You should not take Tofranil if you:
 
  • Are allergic to Tofranil, imipramine hydrochloride, or any inactive component used to make Tofranil. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Have recently had a heart attack (known medically as a myocardial infarction).
     
  • Have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the last 14 days. MAOIs include:
