Effects of Trazodone

Trazodone hydrochloride (Desyrel®) is a medicine that works to improve the symptoms of depression in adults. In clinical trials, trazodone has been shown to be effective for symptoms such as:
  • Having little interest in things that you used to enjoy
  • Sleeping too much or not enough
  • Physical pain
  • Feeling hopeless or worthless
  • Suicidal thoughts.
The medication is thought to work by balancing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Side effects of trazodone are generally mild and can include dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, and headache, to name a few.
