Trazodone Hydrochloride (HCl) Medicine

If you are an adult with clinical

depression, your healthcare provider may recommend a medicine called trazodone hydrochloride (HCl). This product is sold under the brand name Desyrel^® and is available in three different strengths.

Because this drug may not be the best choice for everyone, it's important to tell your healthcare provider before starting treatment if you have any allergies and if you are taking any other medications. To help ensure your safety, your healthcare provider also needs to know if you have:

A recent history of heart attack
A history of suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts
Bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression)
Heart disease
An upcoming surgery.
