To help ensure your safety, talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking trazodone hydrochloride (Desyrel®) if you have:
- Bipolar disorder or a family history of bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression)
- Heart disease
- A recent history of heart attack
- A history of suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts
- An upcoming surgery
- Any allergies, including to food, dyes, or preservatives.
Trazodone is generally well tolerated, and most people are able to take it safely. However, if you develop any serious side effects, such as suicidal thoughts or difficulty breathing, tell your healthcare provider right away.
