Who Should Not Take Venlafaxine XR?

You should not take venlafaxine XR if you:
  • Are allergic to venlafaxine hydrochloride, Effexor XR, or any inactive components used to make venlafaxine XR. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients used to make venlafaxine XR.
  • Are taking linezolid (Zyvox®) or intravenous methylene blue. Venlafaxine XR should not be started in people taking linezolid or IV methylene blue, but a person already taking venlafaxine XR may be given linezolid or methylene blue, if absolutely necessary, and only with very careful monitoring and only if venlafaxine XR is stopped during treatment.
