Viibryd and Sexual Side Effects

As with any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, certain sexual side effects can develop while taking Viibryd (vilazodone). However, it is difficult to know whether these side effects are caused by the medication or by depression itself. More Information on Viibryd and Sexual Side Effects

Clinical studies looked at how often sexual problems occurred in people taking Viibryd, as well as how often they occurred in people given placebo pills ("sugar pills" with no active ingredients). In these studies, although sexual side effects were not extremely common, they did occur more often in people taking Viibryd than in those taking a placebo.

In general, 2 percent of men and less than 1 percent of women in the clinical studies had sexual dysfunction with Viibryd. However, some sexual problems seemed to occur more often than others.

Decreased Libido
Libido is a term used to describe sexual desire, or sex drive. If a person has a decreased libido, they may not be as interested in sexual activity as they used to be. They may not think about sex as much as before, or even at all. These feelings can be troublesome for both the person with the decreased libido and their partner.

In clinical studies, decreased libido was the most common Viibryd sexual side effect, occurring in both men and women. In the studies, 5 percent of men taking Viibryd experienced decreased libido, compared to none of the men taking a placebo, or "sugar pill." Three percent of women taking Viibryd experienced decreased libido, compared to less than 1 percent taking a placebo.
