Levodopa
Taking
Wellbutrin XL and levodopa together may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower
Wellbutrin XL dose if you are taking levodopa.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
You should not take Wellbutrin XL if you have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days, due to an increased risk of dangerous side effects.
Nelfinavir
Nelfinavir may interact with Wellbutrin XL, although there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your dose of these medications.
Nicotine Patches
Orphenadrine
Orphenadrine may interact with Wellbutrin XL, although there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your dose of these medications.
Ritonavir (Norvir) or Lopinavir and Ritonavir (Kaletra)
Ritonavir (whether taken alone or with lopinavir) may increase the metabolism of Wellbutrin XL, leading to decreased levels of Wellbutrin XL in the blood and possibly to decreased effectiveness. Check with your healthcare provider before taking such medications together. You may need a higher
Wellbutrin XL dosage, although the maximum recommended dosage should not be exceeded, even if you are taking ritonavir.
Steroids
Combining Wellbutrin XL with intravenous or oral steroids can increase your risk of
seizures. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
At least theoretically, Wellbutrin XL could cause
tamoxifen to be less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Theophylline
Taking Wellbutrin XL and
theophylline together can increase your risk of
seizures. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Wellbutrin XL and theophylline together.
