Wellbutrin XL Side Effects

Serious Wellbutrin XL Side Effects

Some side effects with Wellbutrin XL, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Seizures (see Wellbutrin Seizures)
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior (see Wellbutrin XL and Suicide)
  • Anxiety, agitation, or panic attacks
  • Hostility or aggressiveness
  • Engaging in unusual or dangerous activities
  • Restlessness or inability to sit still
  • Extreme elation or feelings of happiness that may switch back and forth with a depressed or sad mood
  • Other unusual changes in behavior
  • Hallucinations
  • A fast heart rate
  • Chest palpitations
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feelings of internal jitteriness or restlessness
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
 

Rare Side Effects

Rare Wellbutrin XL side effects occur in less than 1 percent of people taking the drug. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they are because of the medication or something else. Wellbutrin SR® (a similar medication) has been studied in more people and has been available longer than Wellbutrin XL; therefore, most of the information about rare side effects comes from studies of Wellbutrin SR.
