Wellbutrin Drug Interactions

Wellbutrin Interactions Explained

Alcohol
It is not recommended that you drink alcohol while taking Wellbutrin. Combining alcohol and Wellbutrin may cause unwanted side effects (see Wellbutrin and Alcohol). However, since stopping alcohol abruptly while taking Wellbutrin can increase your risk of seizures, you should talk with your healthcare provider before you stop drinking alcohol.

Other Antidepressants
Taking Wellbutrin with other antidepressants may affect the level of Wellbutrin and the other antidepressants in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Also, taking Wellbutrin with other antidepressants may increase your risk of seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before combining Wellbutrin with other antidepressant medications.

You should not take Wellbutrin along with other products containing bupropion, including Budeprion SR®, Buproban®, Budeprion XL®, Wellbutrin SR®, Wellbutrin XL®, and Zyban®.

Amantadine (Symmetrel)
Taking Wellbutrin and amantadine together may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower Wellbutrin dose if you are taking amantadine.

Antipsychotic Medications
Wellbutrin can raise the level of some antipsychotic medications in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Also, taking Wellbutrin with antipsychotic medications may increase your chance of developing seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Beta Blockers
Wellbutrin may raise the level of beta blockers in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. If you are taking these drugs together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to decrease your dose of beta blockers.
