Levodopa (Parcopa, Sinemet, Sinemet CR, Stalevo)
Taking
Wellbutrin and levodopa together may increase your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower Wellbutrin dose if you are taking levodopa.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
You should not take Wellbutrin if you have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days, due to the increased risk of dangerous side effects.
Nelfinavir (Viracept)
While it is thought that
nelfinavir may interact with Wellbutrin, there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. If you are taking nelfinavir and Wellbutrin together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these medications.
Nicotine Patches (NicoDerm CQ)
Taking Wellbutrin while using nicotine patches can cause
high blood pressure. Your healthcare provider should monitor your
blood pressure if you are taking these medications together.
Orphenadrine (Norflex)
While it is thought that orphenadrine may interact with Wellbutrin, there have been no reports of such an interaction in actual patients. If you are taking orphenadrine and Wellbutrin together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these medications.
Ritonavir (Norvir) or Lopinavir and Ritonavir (Kaletra)
Ritonavir (whether taken alone or with lopinavir) may increase the metabolism of Wellbutrin, leading to decreased levels of Wellbutrin in the blood, and possibly to decreased effectiveness. Check with your healthcare provider before taking such medications together. You may need a higher
Wellbutrin dosage, although the maximum recommended dosage should not be exceeded, even if you are taking ritonavir.
Steroids (Prednisone, Methylprednisolone)
Taking Wellbutrin with intravenous or oral steroids can increase your risk of
seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
At least theoretically, Wellbutrin could cause
tamoxifen to be less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Theophylline
Taking Wellbutrin with
theophylline can increase your risk of
seizures. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking Wellbutrin and theophylline together.
