Zoloft Medicine for OCD

Zoloft® (sertraline hydrochloride) is a prescription antidepressant approved for treating numerous conditions within the brain. Many people use Zoloft for OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), but the medicine is also licensed to treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other disorders.

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It works by balancing the levels of serotonin (a certain chemical in the brain), which often helps with symptoms of OCD and similar conditions.

Healthcare providers can prescribe the medicine Zoloft for OCD in both adults and children. Although antidepressants are effective for treating the symptoms of OCD, behavior therapy is often used along with medications to treat the condition.
